Anke Lucks – trombone
Almut Schlichting – baritone saxophone
Christian Reiner – voice
Christian Marien – drums
SUPERLUFT+ Christian Marien are four improvisers from Vienna and Berlin. They play their way through a universe of noises, grooves, silence, funky tunes, air, rhythm, words and Dadaistic fragments of speech.
Trombonist Anke Lucks and baritone saxophonist Almut Schlichting founded the SUPERLUFT trio in 2022 together with speaker and voice artist Christian Reiner. The concept of making experimental improvised music together with the air of breath was obvious and had previously been successfully tested in Reiner’s ensemble LUFT. After concerts at the SuperGau Festival in Lungau and at the Jazz&TheCity Festival in Salzburg, the trio expanded into a quartet with drummer Christian Marien for two workshop concerts at the Vekks in Vienna.
Workshop concert audio samples (October 2024):
“The Berlin musicians Almut Schlichting (baritone saxophone) and Anke Lucks (trombone) interact as if from a single source, with Christian Reiner contributing words, scraps of words, babble, Dadaist and improvised texts. We are dealing with the trio Superluft at Vekks, the Kost-nix shop in Vienna-Meidling – including a Berlin guest on drums, the marvellous Christian Marien. After three quarters of an hour of great verbal and musical impromptu music, Superluft unexpectedly – and incidentally also once part of a Simpsons episode – serves up Word Up!, the big hit from the 80s by Cameo, sung by Christian Reiner in an enchantingly theatrical way.” (Freistil 02/2024)
