Almut Schlichting – baritone saxophone
In her solo program TUSBLU, Berlin-based baritone saxophonist Almut Schlichting uses a poem by contemporary Berlin poet Ulrich Goerdten as a structural foundation. Compositional elements appear as sketches, though the focus remains on improvisation.
As part of a Musikfonds grant, Schlichting developed a new pool of musical materials and strategies in preparation. To this end, she engaged intensively with various vocal traditions rooted in rhythmic music that blur the boundaries between singing and speaking: from American beatboxers and hip-hop artists to West and East African griots and griottes, to the rhyme and sound concepts of sound poetry, Oulipo, and Dadaism.
The program premiered in 2023 at the SoloImpro Festival Berlin.
