The new trio SERENDIPITY features Berlin saxophonist Almut Schlichting, Darmstadt pianist Uli Partheil, and drummer Jörg Fischer from Wiesbaden performing compositions by Darmstadt bassist and composer Jürgen Wuchner (1948-2020).
SERENDIPITY is the art of recognizing happy coincidences and using them creatively—a guiding principle in Wuchner’s life, continued in the formation of this band.
The three musicians came together for the first time in November 2025. Invited by the Jazzinstitut Darmstadt, they spent an intensive and very successful week of rehearsals and concerts, playing three sold-out concerts to enthusiastic audiences.
Wuchner’s compositions give the musicians ample space to explore between driving grooves, lyrical melodies, and abstract soundscapes. Schlichting, Partheil, and Fischer approach the material in this spirit.
Partheil and Fischer’s many years of practical experience from working with Wuchner and Almut Schlichting’s powerful sound and enjoyment of groove are a perfect fit for this music. The trio brings the compositions to life on stage in a lively, diverse manner, full of energy and joy, connecting music history with the present and creating a new cosmos of their own.
