Casey Moir – voice
Almut Schlichting – baritone saxophone
Sven Hinse – double bass
Berlin-based baritone saxophonist Almut Schlichting and double bass player Sven Hinse have been playing together for over 20 years, including many years as the low-frequency duo Subsystem. They are now inviting Stockholm-based vocalist and improviser Casey Moir to collaborate in a new trio setting.
For this project, all three musicians compose pieces and design improvisational concepts, drawing on varying influences like melodic counterpoint, three-part harmony, rhythmic material from Latin America and West Africa, funky basslines, bird calls, noises, text deconstruction, extended techniques and more, but still leaving ample space for free and spontaneous musical action. Together, they are creating a new collective repertoire, oscillating between and weaving together composition and improvisation.
The first rehearsals and recordings took place in Berlin at the beginning of September 2024, and the new trio will be ready to play full-length concerts from January 2025.
