For their latest project, SUBSYSTEM have invited the sensitive and versatile drummer Heinrich Köbberling — known from Julia Hülsmann’s bands and as director of the Berlin Jazz Institute.

Köbberling expands the duo — long deeply in sync — into an unusual and perfectly matched trio. All three are rhythm section, all three are soloists — free to move in any direction and always open to improvisatory excursions. At the same time, transparent yet sustaining rhythmic and harmonic structures emerge, setting the music in motion.

In the band’s compositions and improvisations, Latin American and West African rhythms meet folk-tinged melodies, funky grooves interweave with textures of layered sound. Between energetic solos and a streak of quirky humour, a wide spectrum of musical possibilities unfolds — playful, experimental, and with plenty of room for spontaneous encounters.
