Almut Schlichting
Saxophone Player and Composer
Almut Schlichting has been working as a saxophonist, composer and curator in Berlin for 25 years in the fields of jazz, contemporary music, performance and theatre music.
While still a student at the Berlin University of the Arts, she founded the band Shoot the Moon as a home base for her compositional work.
From 2009 to 2015, she pursued her interest in crossover and collaboration with artists from the fields of dance, theatre and literature with ensembles such as the Garagenoper Kollektiv and Le Sorelle Blu.
In 2015, Almut Schlichting founded the label Tiger Moon Records together with Alexander Beierbach. Since then, CDs by her various bands have been released there regularly.
Since 2016, Almut Schlichting has been concentrating more on band work in the field of jazz and now only plays baritone saxophone. Currently she is on the road with the duo Subsystem, the quartet Bauhauskapellentraum and the trio Insomnia Brass Band, playing numerous concerts in jazz clubs and at festivals.
For her composition projects, her band work and her audio productions, Almut Schlichting has been supported several times in recent years by grants from the Berlin Senate and the German Musikfonds. The Insomnia Brass Band was awarded the German Jazz Prize in April 2023.
